Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly was baffled on Tuesday (September 8) after Lindsay Clancy’s defense lawyer, Kevin Reddington, asked President Donald Trump to grant his client a pardon.

On Tuesday’s edition of The Megyn Kelly Show, the host noted that Reddington appeared on Good Morning America and “bizarrely asked President Trump for a pardon for his client.” Kelly then played a clip of the interview, which aired on GMA on Tuesday morning.

After GMA cohost George Stephanopoulos asked what’s next for Clancy, Reddington addressed Trump directly, saying, “Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady – the type of person she is and what she’s been through – and consider a pardon.”

“It would have been nice if George Stephanopoulos asked him one follow-up question, which is, ‘Why would you be asking for a pardon when your client is charged with a state crime, something for which the president cannot pardon her?’” Kelly stated before calling Reddington and Stephanopoulos “a couple of f****** dumbasses.”

Clancy’s triple-murder trial ended in a mistrial on Friday (September 4) after the jury remained deadlocked after approximately 38 hours of deliberation across seven days. Clancy stood accused of strangling her three young children to death in January 2023. Her defense argued that she was legally insane at the time due to postpartum psychosis.

Kelly doubled down on her criticism of Stephanopoulos for not asking a follow-up question. “He’s been an anchor for a long time… why wouldn’t he follow up with, ‘A pardon? What do you mean, a pardon?’” she said.

She tried to give Stephanopoulos the “benefit of the doubt,” explaining that “this is probably the function of network morning news, where everything is three minutes long… they had seven minutes with the guy; it was an eternity. And God forbid you blow a break!”

Kelly, who anchored the morning show Megyn Kelly Today on NBC News from 2017 to 2018, argued that Stephanopoulos should have ignored the restrictions and asked Reddington “what in God’s name” he was talking about.

“Instead, you just leave everyone confused,” she added before noting that her team had reached out to Reddington’s office to ask “what the hell” he was talking about. “We are waiting to hear back.”
