Jenna Elfman Breaks Silence on Potential Return for ‘Shifting Gears’ Season 3

The engines are still cooling after the dramatic Season 2 finale of ABC’s hit sitcom Shifting Gears, but fans are already looking toward the horizon. While the network has yet to officially give the “green light” for Season 3, series recurring star Jenna Elfman is opening up about her character’s fate and her desire to reunite with Tim Allen once again.

A Cliffhanger Departure

In the closing episodes of Season 2, Elfman’s character, Eve Drake, threw a wrench into her blossoming romance with Matt Parker (Tim Allen). After Matt finally confessed his love, Eve revealed she had accepted a five-month choreography gig in Korea. The season ended with the couple deciding to part ways rather than attempt a grueling long-distance relationship, leaving Eve’s future in the Shifting Gears universe uncertain.

Despite the onscreen breakup, Elfman sounds anything but finished with the show.

“Iconic Chemistry”

Speaking at a recent industry event, Elfman expressed her joy in returning to her multi-cam sitcom roots.

“I didn’t know if I was ever going to do comedy again, but it feels so good,” Elfman shared. “Tim and I—our comedic chemistry is just amazing. Every time we do a scene together, I get giddy. I haven’t had that feeling in a long time.”

Elfman’s portrayal of the spirited dance studio owner across the street has been a hit with viewers, many of whom have praised the “will-they-won’t-they” dynamic between her and Allen. Regarding a Season 3 return, Elfman hinted that Eve’s five-month absence isn’t necessarily a permanent exit.

Will Season 3 Happen?

While ABC has not made a formal announcement, the signs are pointing toward a renewal. The Season 2 finale saw a 59% spike in total viewers, marking a series milestone for the show. Additionally, co-star Daryl “Chill” Mitchell (who plays Stitch) recently teased fans by mentioning he was told to “leave his stuff in the dressing room”—a classic industry hint that the cast expects to be back on set soon.

If the show returns, the question remains: Will Eve Drake return from Korea to reclaim Matt’s heart, or will Matt find a new spark in her absence?
