Bobbie came through for her best friend after a troubling update about Gabby’s pregnancy journey.
While it’s no secret that Season 2 of Happy’s Place has been serving up plenty of laughs, viewers were reaching for the tissues after Gabby (Melissa Peterman) got some heartbreaking news about her dreams of becoming a mother.
How to Watch

Reba McEntire’s Bobbie has been Gabby’s champion since learning that the Happy’s Place bartender wanted to have a baby, which ramped up in excitement this season after Gabby found a donor and kick-started the process. Gabby’s fellow staff members at Happy’s Place have been eager for any update about her pregnancy journey, and they got that long-awaited news during the NBC sitcom’s January 23 episode.
Season 2’s “The Name Game” began with a euphoric high but ended with utter heartbreak. Here’s what happened:

After Gabby arrived late for her shift at Happy’s Place, she entered the bar with a telling grin on her face, clearly bursting with excitement. Bobbie, Steven (Pablo Castelblanco), and Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) waited for Gabby to cut to the chase.
“Sorry, I’m late,” Gabby said before cheekily adding, “But today I’m not just late for work…”
“Oh my gosh!” Isabella exclaimed. “Are you…?”
“Gabby, are you…?” Bobbie asked.
“Someone please finish a sentence!” Steven snapped with impatience.
“I’m pregnant!” Gabby squealed, getting a massive scream from Isabella and a joyful celebration from her friends. Amid the excitement, Bobbie couldn’t help but feel surprised by Gabby’s quick turnaround. That apprehension only grew after learning Gabby hadn’t taken a pregnancy test to confirm a baby was truly on the way.
Bobbie felt it might be too early to celebrate, making her seem like the tavern curmudgeon, but it came from a good place. In a fit of excitement, Gabby began making comments about needing to pee, sensitive hormones, telling coworkers to feel her breasts, asking about the radiance of her skin, etc.

Amid Gabby’s pregnancy-fueled glee, the crew began brainstorming baby names for the future kid. After Bobbie failed to express much interest in the activity, this tipped Gabby off and led her to ask if Bobbie wasn’t actually excited. Bobbie said she was happy for her, but confessed that she was just scared of Gabby getting too hopeful and having her heart broken. Gabby wasn’t having it.
“Bobbie, look: I have been not pregnant my whole life, and I know what that feels like. This feels different,” Gabby said, calling her friend out for being “Bobbie bummer” about the situation.

Starring Reba McEntire, Rex Linn, Belissa Escobedo, Melissa Peterman, Tokala Black Elk, and Pablo Castelblanco, Season 2 of Happy’s Place features even more nostalgic reunions and sitcom hilarity.
The romance between Bobbie and Emmett has been full of “fireworks,” as the two shared their first kiss and even defined their relationship. But, while love is in the air, Emmett is carrying a long-buried secret on Happy’s Place Season 2.

After having a chat with Emmett (Rex Linn), Bobbie set out to become more positive about Gabby’s situation, throwing her friend a baby name party at Happy’s Place to turn the tide. Gabby was greatly appreciative of the gesture, having fun while pulling names and dreaming of her future kid with the rest of the crew. Bobbie told Gabby that whether she had a boy or a girl, it would be a well-loved kid because of Gabby and the rest of the Happy’s Place family.
In utter glee, Gabby went to take a gleeful selfie with the group. However, before she could get the snapshot, Gabby got a call from her doctor and was forced to excuse herself.
Once Gabby returned to the group, she had heartbreaking news: they didn’t need to select a baby name because she wasn’t pregnant. Bobbie was the first to check in on a tearful Gabby, who was in utter shock after learning she was not only not pregnant, but she wouldn’t be able to get pregnant in the future.
“What did the doctor say?” Bobbie asked Gabby, who was crying in her office.
“He said there was a very simple reason I wasn’t pregnant. Turns out, I’m infertile,” Gabby said through tears.
Gabby ended up wanting to be alone, leading Bobbie to visit Emmett and deliver the upsetting update. “The doctor said… she’s not able to get pregnant,” Bobbie told Emmett, who quickly added some unexpected levity to the sad situation.
“Aww man, that’s rough,” Emmett said just before making the audience giggle with his first question about the news. “So her boobs weren’t really… ya know?”
