POPULAR 90s rock star, Tony Kanal, has quietly re-emerged in the background of Tim Allen’s sitcom, years after distancing himself from the spotlight.

Tony is best known as one-fourth of the rock band No Doubt and later joined the musical group Dreamcar.

The series premiered in January and has been on an extended break since its December 10 episode for the holidays.

Season 2 will resume on January 7, 2026.

Tony is no stranger to working behind the scenes on TV and film projects, as he’s previously composed music for 10 episodes of Freeform’s Single Drunk Female, according to his IMDB profile.

He’s also co-scored the 2022 Netflix film Purple Hearts, starring Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine.

The 55-year-old looks drastically different than his earlier days rocking out on stage.

In photos from recent appearances, Tony ditched his signature platinum blonde spikey hairstyle, letting his hair turn nearly completely gray.

He also traded in his tight skinny jeans and cut-off tank tops for a more buttoned-up style of a black suit and tie.

Before transitioning to gigs behind the camera, the British musician was the bassist for No Doubt and co-wrote many of their chart-topping hits, including Spiderwebs, and Hey Baby.

Gwen Stefani was the band’s lead vocalist, and she went on to have a massive solo career following the group’s hiatus in 2015.

Guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young rounded out the group, which scored Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their 2003 track, Hey Baby, and 2004’s Underneath It All, among other accolades.

No Doubt rose to fame in the mid-to-late ’90s and remained popular for much of the 2000s with their albums Tragic Kingdom and Rock Steady.

Although the group has primarily focused on their separate endeavors over the last decade, fans begged them to head back out on tour together.

Fans’ prayers were answered last year when the foursome reunited on stage for Coachella, which Gwen reportedly “pushed hard” to orchestrate while her husband, country singer Blake Shelton, was on tour.

A source exclusively revealed to The U.S. Sun last January that Gwen didn’t have any interest in doing a “full-blown world tour“; however, she appeared to have a change of heart.

It was later announced that Gwen and her former bandmates would headline a limited residency, “No Doubt: Live at Sphere,” in Las Vegas during May and June 2026.

It would mark the band’s first extended performances in 14 years, consisting of an 18-show run.

They will follow in the footsteps of bands such as U2, Eagles, and Backstreet Boys, who have played at the iconic venue.

Gwen previously had her own “Just a Girl: Las Vegas” residency at the Zappos Theater, which was set to run from 2018 to May 2020.

Eight of those shows were postponed until the following year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
