The ABC series announced that the show had been renewed for season 25 in 2027, with auditions officially open.

The news comes weeks before the American Idol season 24 finale airs on May 11.

As the competition winds down on ABC, fans are eager to find out who will be crowned the next American Idol. While there’s still some time before the season finale airs on May 11, viewers got the ultimate surprise on April 28.

Sharing a photo of the current American Idol competitors, the show’s Instagram shocked its followers by announcing that auditions are officially open for next year’s installment. Meaning: American Idol officially got renewed for season 25 in 2027.

“Our search is on for #TheNextIdol! 🤩,” the caption read. “Send in your video now, or tell a friend! 🎤 #BeAnIdol.”

Fans couldn’t be more thrilled about the renewal.

“Congratulations!!!!👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉,” one person wrote in the comments. “I wish I could be on the show,” another added.

Similarly exciting, the upcoming episode on May 4 will feature OG judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul as guest mentors for the current contestants. Paula will also return to the judges’ panel to critique the performances in real time.

All this is happening just as Chris Tungseth, Hannah Harper, Brandon Rumfelt, Keyla Richardson, and Jordan McCullough vie for the top spot on American Idol season 24.
