Drew Carey Reduced to Tears After Learning Rock Legend Paul McCartney Is a Fan of ‘The Price Is Right’
In the world of entertainment, few moments are more heartwarming than when a seasoned celebrity turns into a total fanboy upon discovering that their own idol watches them. That is exactly what happened to Drew Carey, the beloved host of The Price Is Right, when he found out that rock legend and The Beatles co-founder Paul McCartney is a devoted viewer of his long-running game show.
Carey shared the emotional, star-struck story during appearances on late-night and daytime television, including The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Jennifer Hudson Show.

Meeting a Legend Backstage
The connection began thanks to a mutual friend, Chris Holmes, who worked as a pre-show touring DJ for McCartney. Ahead of a concert in Canada, Holmes arranged a surprise backstage meet-and-greet for Carey.
Carey admitted he was already “flipping out” just at the prospect of meeting McCartney, a man whose music he had admired since childhood. He recalled being so nervous that he didn’t even want to shake McCartney’s hand too hard, joking, “I don’t want to ruin your hand!”
However, the real shock came when McCartney started asking him about The Price Is Right. The rock icon confessed that he absolutely loves the program and watches what Carey playfully refers to as his “trash TV” show all the time.
An Unforgettable On-Stage Shout-out
The surreal encounter did not end backstage. Carey and his party took their floor seats for the concert. During the performance of the classic hit “Back in the U.S.S.R.”, McCartney looked directly down at Carey from the stage.
Right at the end of the song, during the famous “ooo-woo-woos,” McCartney broke from the lyrics, looked straight at the game show host, and sang out the show’s iconic catchphrase: “Come on down to The Price Is Right!”

Moving a Host to Tears
The unexpected public acknowledgement from a global icon proved to be too overwhelming for Carey.
“I just started crying,” Carey confessed on The Jennifer Hudson Show, explaining how deeply the moment touched him. “I cried like a baby.”
For Carey, who took over hosting duties for the historic game show from Bob Barker in 2007, knowing that his work brings joy to one of the greatest songwriters in history remains one of the ultimate validation points of his career.
