Kelly Clarkson Goes Off-Script and Puts John Legend On Blast Over a ‘Silly’ Battle That Stunned the Audience

Why Kelly Clarkson Put John Legend on Blast Over a Hot Wing: “I’m Risking Our…”

The Voice Season 29 Coach vowed to be “super truthful” during a round of “Truth or Dab” with Hot Ones host Sean Evans.

As a beloved Coach of The Voice and Emmy-winning talk show host, Kelly Clarkson is no stranger to landing in the hot seat. But after Hot Ones host Sean Evans stopped by her show, her dear friend and fellow Season 29 Coach John Legend got hit by a stray for a hilarious reason.

How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays at 9/8c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Evans and Rita Wilson joined Clarkson for an April 2020 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, where Evans introduced the stars to an extra-special daytime edition of “Truth or Dab.” As the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade correspondent so eloquently explained, his game requires players to answer either a tough or embarrassing question, lest they suffer the wrath of the last dab on a “very hot hot wing.” Clarkson admitted to Wilson that her game plan was to stick to the truth — she wasn’t interested in partaking in Evans’ sinister culinary display.

“I can smell the heat,” Clarkson said with concern as Wilson teased there was a “mirage coming off” the wings. Clarkson and Wilson prepared themselves for the nuclear interview, which led to a hysterical confession from Clarkson about her fellow Voice Coach.

“I’m so nervous, Sean, go!” Clarkson was encouraged as Evans revealed he had a set of deeply personal and awkward questions for The Voice Coach. She could answer questions honestly, or eat a spicy hot wing, but Clarkson eagerly promised she planned to be “super truthful.”

Upon noting Clarkson’s confidence, he began by asking this hysterical question: “Name one song, from a fellow Voice judge, that you hope you never have to hear again.”

While the audience groaned with suspense, it didn’t take long for Clarkson to come up with her answer: John Legend’s 2013 Grammy-nominated song “All of Me.” As a 14-time platinum hit and a bespoke wedding playlist staple, Clarkson admitted that Legend’s single had become a tad overplayed over the years.

“Now this is not because it’s not a great song, it’s because we ruined it by playing it too much,” Clarkson carefully explained, turning to the camera for her big reveal. “I love you, John Legend, I love ‘All of Me.’ But I need a minute. I need a minute. I don’t want to hear it for a minute, just a minute. And then I’ll be fine, I’ll be fine.”

The audience erupted in laughter and cheers with Clarkson’s humorous confession, but Clarkson was keen to add a special message to her Voice colleague. “I don’t want that hot wing!” Clarkson said to the camera, i.e., Legend. “I’m risking our friendship, ’cause I don’t want that!”

Despite Clarkson’s efforts to evade the wrath of the last dab, after Evans asked her to name her least favorite guest she has interviewed on her show, she was cornered into reaching for the hot wing. As Clarkson took a bite, she instantly commiserated over the atomic-level spice, berating Evans for his scathing punishment.

“My mouth is on fire, you said this was mild!” Clarkson exclaimed, soon reaching for the milk alongside Wilson.
