The documentary, made by Rolex titled Bringing It Home is just over 10 minutes long and shows a different side to the music star, touching on his home life.
The opening scenes show Michael switch from being on stage to being in his Vancouver home, running on a treadmill with a huge garden as his backdrop.
The Canadian singer resides near his hometown of Burnaby, British Columbia, with his wife-of-14-years, Luisana, and their kids Noah, 12, Elias, 9, Vida, 7, and Cielo, 3.
Michael, in a scene talking to his manager is shown recounting his busy upcoming schedule flying from New York to Rome to then film scenes for The Voice – much to his dissatisfaction.
The Voice films off-and-on throughout the entire year, depending on the season, at Universal Studios in Hollywood, California.
And it’s roughly a 4-hour flight each way from Michael’s home in Canada to Los Angeles.
After the revelation that filming would commence earlier, freeing up his schedule Michael appeared relieved.
Reflecting on his childhood in the doc, Michael admitted: “I think I had always been an entertainer and very early on as a little boy, I told everyone who I would be and this is what my job would be.”
He went on to detail the highs and lows of his career so far and recalled his journey playing in arenas and stadiums, whilst selling over 70 million records.
Cutting back to him at home, camera crews followed the star down to his basement where Michael has an incredible regulation-sized ice hockey rink.
Dressed in full hockey gear, Michael revealed this is where he goes to ‘escape reality’, he is then shown playing on the ice with his son.
He said: “This is kind of like my oasis, where I can come and escape and just chill out a little bit. I get to live my childhood dreams out here.”
Speaking about his home, he added: “Honestly, one of the great joys in my life is being able to come back to Burnaby. Because home is where the heart is, home is where my kids are and my family are. I’m so thankful for the success I’ve had all over the world and this amazing life it’s given me.
“But for many years, I feel like I lived with almost a filter, and the filter had me living through my ego self, my ambition, the things I wanted, the power, the fame, the success.”
Cutting to a montage of videos and pictures with his family, Michael said: “But that changed when my son Noah was three and he was diagnosed with cancer and it just shattered our family.
“It was the unthinkable, and it’s the unthinkable for many families all over the world. But the doctors were fabulous and people prayed for us and thank God my son is okay. But what it did was it changed my life.”
Michael and his family have faced a challenging few years after his son Noah was diagnosed with liver cancer back in 2016.
He continued: “And for the first time ever, I understood in context what my real priorities were. To appreciate and have gratitude for every single moment.”
It’s clear that the singer wants to take time away from the spotlight to be with his family as his grueling filming schedule calls for him to be away from his home for weeks at a time.
“Michael wants to focus on his family and is going to try to be in Canada much more full-time,” an insider told The U.S. Sun for his decision to step away from The Voice.
