Pablo Casteblanco Reveals What He Was Chugging in Those Happy’s Place “Beer Me” Scenes
Steve turned into the “beer me” guy on this week’s hilarious episode of Happy’s Place and Pablo Castelblanco revealed in an interview with NBC Insider that he had a blast giving the tavern’s germaphobic accountant a dose “toxic masculinity.”
“Oh God, I really had fun, a lot of fun that week,” Castelblanco gushed to NBC Insider while chatting about Happy’s Place Season 2’s “Dart to the Heart,” adding that the episode showed fans an unseen side of Steve. Specifically, his newfound confidence after killing a spider.
“I love that his confidence kind of looks like toxic masculinity,” Castelblanco laughed.
Pablo Castelblanco is “so grateful” the Happy’s Place writers gave Steve a “silly” arc

Near the start of the March 6 episode of Happy’s Place, Steve and Gabby (Melissa Peterman) panic after finding a spider hiding under the bar. After both confess they’re afraid of spiders and look to Takoda (Tokala Black Elk) for help, Steve summons the courage to take care of the creepy-crawly. “Arachnids are so arrogant,” Steve vents to Gabby. “I’m afraid of spiders, but I hate a bully more!”
After letting out several high-pitched screams and aggressive squirts of hand sanitizer, Steve came to the rescue “in the most sanitary way possible.”
To celebrate his new hero status, Steve asked Gabby grab him a beer — well, a root beer. Sliding the bottle effortlessly across the bar, Steve guzzled down the soda and slammed the empty on the bar. “This is the first time I’ve ever been attracted to you,” Gabby tells Steve, fanning herself with a menu.
Throughout the episode, Steve really took on a macho guy persona, even kissing his bicep at one point, and had Gabby “beer” him a few more times, though he broke some bottles in the process.
Speaking to NBC Insider, Castelblanco said he found it hilarious that Steve’s “just having all these root beers” and loved getting to play with some physical comedy, crediting the props department for all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into these scenes.
“I was so grateful to the writers that they gave me that little arc,” he shared. “It was so silly.”
Castelblanco went on to share that his “favorite” thing about working with Peterman is that she pushes him to go hard in these hilarious scenes. “I mean this in the best way possible, she will encourage your worst impulses,” he said. “She will just be like, ‘Well, that’s dumb and funny. Just go dumber and just go funnier with it.'”
Pablo Castelblanco reveals what was actually in his drinks on Happy’s Place

After having to drink a couple root beers on Happy’s Place, you might think the props department filled those bottles with water or something less bubbly. But, nope, according to Castelblanco, he was actually chugging soda.
“It was root beer in there,” he revealed to NBC Insider. “It was great.”
“One of my favorite things is whenever they’re pouring all the drinks in the bar for our amazing background cast or ourselves, I always love to ask what it it,” Castelblanco said, explaining that they often use apple juice on set to make drinks look wine. “Our props team is so great.”
Happy’s Place Season 2
Ready for another round? Happy’s Place Season 2 has been serving up heart and humor, with new episodes airing Fridays at 8/7c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
The romance between Bobbie and Emmett has been full of “fireworks,” as the two shared their first kiss and even defined their relationship. But, while love is in the air, Emmett is carrying a long-buried secret on Happy’s Place Season 2.

As Season 2 continues to unpack how Bobbie (Reba McEntire), Emmett (Rex Linn), and Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) move forward after the big secret was revealed, Castelblanco is excited to explore more of Steve’s “world” as the character lives with OCD and pushes himself out of his “comfort zone.”
“I want to see him explore the world outside a little bit more. I want to see what his family looks like and how his dynamics with his family are,” Castelblanco told NBC Insider, adding that he’d love to see what’s in store for Steve’s love life, his new passion for directing, or even everyday tasks, especially as Happy’s Place was renewed for a third season. “What’s a day at the DMV [like] with Steve? That’s funny to see.”
