Reba McEntire & Rex Linn Unpack Happy’s Place Season 2’s Big Kiss & Bigger Reveal
Reba McEntire and Rex Linn, stars of NBC’s Happy’s Place, chatted with Screen Rant’s Cher Thompson ahead of the show’s season 2 premiere to unpack the episode’s biggest moment, which is certain to impact the season as it moves forward. With Bobbie (McEntire) having come to terms with her half-sister Isabella (Belissa Escobedo) being part of her life, the Happy’s Place season 2 premiere set new drama in motion.
After Happy’s Place season 2’s premiere saw him turn Bobbie down, it was revealed that Emmett’s been keeping a secret from everyone since Isabella’s arrival. Bobbie, none the wiser, stepped up to the plate and put her feelings on the line, kissing Emmett to cut the tension. McEntire revealed kissing Emmett was “really scary for Bobbie,” explaining that she was “very nervous” about pushing boundaries.
McEntire shared that though Bobbie and Emmett’s relationship has gotten more complicated, Bobbie’s happy to have Isabella to lean on. “It was another good sharing moment between the sisters,” McEntire revealed, sharing that things will get complicated as Happy’s Place season 2 unfolds. While Bobbie’s fearful of what’s to come after kissing Emmett (Rex Linn), the soft-spoken chef has more nerves around the secret he’s been keeping.
Emmett knowing about Isabella prior to her showing up during Happy’s Place season 1 is something that “helps navigate his ship,” but may cause him turmoil as he grows closer with Bobbie. “We’ve done a lot of establishing in season one, [and] now we get to play with it,” Linn shared, keeping tight-lipped about Emmett’s secret and what it means for his relationship with Bobbie.
Revealing that playing Emmett with the secret in his back pocket has “made it more fun,” it’s clear that previously knowing about Isabella’s existence is going to come into play this season, especially now that things with Bobbie and Emmett are more complicated. As Happy’s Place season 2 continues, time will tell whether the series creates tension with the secret, or lets it out quickly.
Happy’s Place season 2 is not only set to deepen the relationships between its existing cast, but is slated to continue the Reba reunions that viewers have been hopeful about with McEntire back on the small screen with Melissa Peterman. After bringing former Reba co-star Steve Howey into the mix last season, JoAnna Garcia Swisher is set to guest star during Happy’s Place season 2.
As the series moves ahead, Happy’s Place is continuing to create compelling stories that play to the actors’ strengths, both rooting the show in its nature as a sitcom and elevating the material to prove it’s an underrated comedy. With McEntire and Linn’s fascinating chemistry working overtime, the series has set the stage for an exciting season with its premiere episode.
Happy’s Place airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
