A reunion of the hit ABC ’90s sitcom “Home Improvement” is set to take place during the upcoming second season of “Switching Gears,” also an ABC series.

Comedian Tim Allen is the star of both shows and with him for this third sitcom go-around is “Two Broke Girls” actress Kat Dennings. He portrayed handyman TV host and car enthusiast Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor on “Home Improvement” and portrays classic car restorer Matt Parker.
In an exclusive report from Deadline, Allen is being reunited on an episode of “Switching Gears” this upcoming season with his fictional “Tool Time” co-host from “Home Improvement,” Richard Karn, who played Al Borland on the show. Patricia Richardson, who played Allen’s wife, Jill Taylor, will also have a cameo on “Switching Gears,” as will Debbe Dunning who played “Tool Time’s” eye-catching assistant Heidi.
But this isn’t the first time the “Home Improvement” cast is reuniting on another series.
Allen’s previous TV series, “Last Man Standing,” also on ABC and ran for nine season (“Home Improvement” ran for eight) had guest appearances by Karn and Richardson as well as “Home Improvement’s teen heartthrob from the ’90s, Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

“’Shifting Gears’ follows Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” the official synopsis of the show reads. “When his estranged daughter, Riley, and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”
“Shifting Gears” also stars Seann William Scott, Daryl Chill Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis.

“Tim Allen executive produces alongside Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily and John Amodeo. Dennings is a producer. The ABC series is produced by 20th Television,” the synopsis continues.
