Stunning ‘Toy Story 5’ Trailer Reunites Tom Hanks and Tim Allen After 7 Years

Toy Story has spent its past four installments bringing viewers to laughter and to tears with its tales all about growing up through the lens of playtime. However, one thing the series has yet to address is the impact of technology on children and the playthings that once captured their imagination.

That’s about to change with the upcoming Toy Story 5. Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), and the rest of the gang will be back again this year and are about to face their most fearsome foe yet — a happy-looking tablet with a frog design and the voice of Past Lives star Greta Lee.

We Didn’t Need ‘Toy Story 4,’ and That’s Why It’s Brilliant

Plans for the sequel were first announced back in 2023, alongside Zootopia 2 and Frozen 3, in hopes of turning around Disney’s ill fortunes at the box office and expanding on stories and characters that everyone loved.

Zootopia 2 proved late last year how that could be a winning formula, setting a record as the highest-grossing animated film in U.S. history with over $1.7 billion while also earning rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.

With Andrew Stanton taking over as writer and director this time around, Toy Story‘s return looks to strike a similar chord after time and again finding new angles to explore with Andy’s old pals. Ahead of the premiere, Disney has now given the fifth installment its best look yet with a brand-new trailer

A new trailer that sheds more light on the new threat encroaching on playtime, as well as how Woody is back with his friends after the events of Toy Story 4. Where the first teaser merely showed the toys viewers know and love shaking in fear at the reveal of Lilypad, this latest preview demonstrates exactly why everyone from Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head to Forky was so terrified of the otherwise cheerful-looking device.

This malicious machine is working to separate Bonnie from her toys and even her family and friends by providing her all the fun she could ever want in one place. After Woody’s departure to help other lost toys find the perfect homes, Jessie is stepping up to take on this new foe, but the toys will need a little help from their old sheriff to overcome such a powerful draw of attention. Add in an army of malfunctioning Buzz Lightyear toys, and it’s clear the gang has their work cut out for them if they want to remain at the center of Bonnie’s world.

Who Else Is On Board for ‘Toy Story 5’?

In addition to the core trio of Hanks, Allen, and Cusack, Toy Story 5 is bringing back Tony Hale as Forky and Blake Clark as Slinky. Ernie Hudson will also be taking the place of the late Carl Weathers as the G.I. Joe parody, Combat Carl. Lee, meanwhile, will be joined by an exciting list of newcomers playing completely original characters, including Anna FarisCraig Robinson, and Conan O’Brien. O’Brien will get the messiest job of all, bringing his humor to the film as the happy-go-lucky potty training toy named Smarty Pants.

Toy Story 5 is just part of what is shaping up as a massive year for Disney, with the releases of The Devil Wears Prada 2HoppersThe Mandalorian & Grogu, and Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon as well. The toys will finally be back in theaters on June 19. Check out the trailer in the player above.
