‘The Voice’ recap: Niall hits the ‘Mic Drop’ after a ’50-50′ knockout decision

The Voice Season 28 Knockouts continued on Nov. 10 with four more head-to-head duets from Teams Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan, and Reba McEntire. “Mega mentors” Joe Walsh and Zac Brown assisted during the rehearsals that helped narrow down teams headed for the Playoffs. In the Knockouts, the coaches no longer had a steal or save button, but for the first time, each nominated one of their winners using the new “Mic Drop” button to give them the chance to perform at the Rose Parade, voted on by the audience.
In Part 2 that aired Nov. 3, Michael dropped the mic for 14-year old Max Chambers following a stunning rendition of “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing” by Stevie Wonder.
Read on for our The Voice 28 recap of the “The Knockouts, Part 3” performances which aired Monday, Nov. 10 at 9 pm ET/PT on NBC.
Conrad Khalil vs. Ryan Mitchell

Team Reba
Songs: Conrad — “Closer” by Ne-Yo/Ryan — “Zombie” by the Cranberries
Joe’s advice: [To Conrad] “The embellishment that you’re doing, and you do ’em great, I’m not sure you need ’em all. Don’t let it distract from the song.” [To Ryan] “Just back off on singing really loud, just a pinch.”
Michael’s comments: “Conrad, you have all the runs, you have great range, you have a really gorgeous tone. Ryan has come back and exceeded everyone’s greatest expectations. You have the ability to interpret songs better than anybody else did.”
Snoop’s comments: “Ryan, it made me feel like it was the early ’90s. … Conrad, what you showed me is you have control of your vocals.”
Niall’s comments: “Conrad, you remind me of all those great R&B singers that I grew up listening to. Ryan, the growth you’ve shown over the last few weeks has been unbelievable.”
Reba’s comments: “Conrad, you knew exactly where you were going … you were very focused. Ryan, you wanted to sing a song that you could relate to which I thought was very brave.”
Winner: Ryan Mitchell
Marty O’Reilly vs. Rob Cole

Team Bublé
Songs: Marty — “The Letter” by Joe Cocker/Rob — “Wondering Why” by The Red Clay Strays
Zac’s advice: [To Marty] “I felt you finding your pocket at the beginning, so one of the things that I do to do that is doing some breathing before I go on to actually lower my heart rate.” [To Rob] “You don’t have to bang and play along the whole time at the end. .. because when you grab the mic and you go and take off … it would have been powerful.”
Snoop’s comments: “Marty, the way you sing — the way you howl and growl — that ain’t nothing but the dog in you. Rob, the way you started on that piano and then you stood up and went to a whole ‘nother level, that’s superstar.”
Niall’s comments: “Rob, I think you should be playing the piano more — you told the story so well. Marty, you don’t necessarily like look at us, but it’s captivating to watch.”
Reba’s comments: “Great job, both of you … fantastic.”
Michael’s comments: “Each one of you executed perfectly … both of you are too good not to go on.”
Winner: Rob Cole
Jack Austin vs. Trinity

Team Bublé
Songs: Trinity — “I’m Your Baby Tonight” by Whitney Houston/Jack — not shown
Michael’s comments: “I think you have this gorgeous, soulful voice. You have a lot more potential in you.”
Winner: Trinity
DEK of Hearts vs. Kayleigh Clark

Team Niall
Songs: Kayleigh — “Blue” by LeAnn Rimes/DEK of Hearts — “What If I Never Get Over You” by Lady A
Joe’s advice: [To Kayleigh] “Be careful of the high note at the end — don’t be afraid of that. Make sure you got plenty of air … just take a deep breath.” [To DEK of Hearts] “You’re having a good time. I like to see that … the real secret of longevity is when you breakthrough to the next generation.”
Reba’s comments: “Kayleigh, that was wonderful … your yodels were really, really perfect. DEK of Hearts, y’all’s harmony is so good.”
Snoop’s comments: “DEK of Hearts, your harmonies and when you guys come together is magic. Kayleigh, yeah she’s got all of that.”
Niall’s comments: “I think this is what it looks like when two four-chair turns get into a knockout together. Kayleigh, you took all of [Joe’s] notes on board and just smashed it. DEK, that wall of sound that you make is just so beautiful. … This is a complete 50-50, I have no idea what I’m gonna do.”
Winner: DEK of Hearts — Niall hit mic drop
The Updated Teams:
TEAM BUBLÉ: Jazz McKenzie, Max Chambers, Rob Cole, Teo Ramdel, Trinity
