Reba McEntire Hilariously Snubs Former Daughter-in-Law Kelly Clarkson on The Voice.

Reba McEntire sent a hilarious message endorsing John Legend as a country coach on season 29 of The Voice, much to the amusement and chagrin of former daughter-in-law Kelly Clarkson.

Since Reba McEntire’s been gone, Kelly Clarkson is coming for her throne as the Queen of Country Music on The Voice.

However, it would appear the “Because of You” singer—who was previously married to Reba’s late stepson Brandon Blackstock—has some serious competition from fellow coach John Legend on season 29 of the competition series.

“We don’t have a pure country artist on this dais here,” John explained to contestant Julia Golden on the Feb. 23 season premiere. “Kelly believes that she’s entitled to every country artist.”

Kelly laughed, “I don’t feel that, I know that.”

And as she and John—who are coaches alongside Adam Levine on this season—went back and forth on who has the country music-cred, the 43-year-old mentioned her own performances with Reba, which lead to John playing a message from the “Survivor” singer.

“Speaking of Reba McEntire, who’s a fantastic coach on this show. The Queen, you might say, of country music,” the 47-year-old said, “I feel like she would have something to say about me.”

As for what she said?

“Hey, I’m Reba McEntire,” Reba began in a pre-recorded video message. “People have asked me, ‘Can John Legend coach a country artist?’ Heck yeah. Wish he’d coach me.”

“He’s absolutely fantastic. He’s a genius. He can do anything. He plays, he sings, he mentors—I know,” the 70-year-old added. “I’m the Queen of Country Music and I endorse John Legend. I approve this message.”

But despite Reba and John’s best efforts, Julia still chose to join Team Kelly, which helps fuel Kelly’s desire to be the go-to country coach, especially as Blake Shelton is off this season.

“Oh I’m very excited to have country artists on here,” she said in a video posted to TikTok Feb. 27, “and I’m gonna fight like hell for them.”

John joked, “You used to fight Blake all the time for country artists, Blake would always get them. And now’s your chance. You can out-country us, probably.”

And Blake’s absence was quite the thrill for Kelly.

“This is my first season that I’ve been on and Shelton isn’t here,” she shared, “so my strategy is just to gather all those country artists on my team that would have passed me up had he been here.”
