Nancy Travis Shares What It’s REALLY Like Working with Tim Allen
The Last Man Standing costars reunited on Shifting Gears.
Tim Allen is back on TV with Shifting Gears, and now he’s being joined by a familiar face.
Nancy Travis, who starred alongside Tim as Vanessa Baxter on Last Man Standing, will act alongside her former onscreen husband in a new guest role in the February 12 episode.
In an interview with People, Nancy admitted that the Shifting Gears set felt like a family reunion, thanks to several of her former colleagues working behind the scenes.
As for reuniting with her longtime costar, she says she helps Tim stay focused. She explained, “I guess the most challenging thing is just… is kind of keeping him in his lane. It’s sort of keeping him focused on the work at hand, which is also part of his genius [and] also his improvisational ability.”
Nancy shared a clip from the new series on Instagram and wrote, “Hiya all @lastmanstanding fans! Am turning up on @shifting_gearsabc tomorrow night in a mysterious way. IYKYK – Weds 2/12 8:00pm @abc”

The clip shows Nancy as a mysterious woman who encounters Tim’s character Matt when he goes to the cemetery to visit his wife’s grave. The two meet for a drink, and, when she leaves, she tells Matt, “This was great, but something about you reminds me of the last man I was with.”
While Nancy is currently billed as a guest star, some fans are hoping for more and shared their feelings in the comments section. One wrote, “Oh I love you 2 together you would be a great addition to the cast” and another said, “For y’all to end up together again on screen would be amazing!!💯”

While we’d love to see Nancy added to the cast full time, her schedule could be a factor. The actress is also starring in the new NBC series Grosse Pointe Garden Society, which premieres on February 23.
