Oops… They Did It Again: The Voice Coaches’ Five Biggest Season 27 Flubs… So Far
If you’ve been a fan of The Voice for any length of time — heck, often even just a single episode — you know that the coaches aren’t perfect. They make mistakes. Occasionally massive ones. And in the enduring NBC sing-off’s 27th season, veterans Adam Levine and John Legend, relative newbie Michael Bublé and total newb Kelsea Ballerini are performing true to form, making decisions here and there that leave us going, “Hmm,” “Are you sure about that?” and now and then, “Oh, come on, seriously?!?”
Below you’ll find the five flubs that most flummoxed me from the Battles and Knockouts, aka the first rounds in which contestants are either advanced, saved, stolen or — gulp — eliminated. (It’s that last one that always gets the coaches in trouble.) Accompanying each of the mentioned missteps is a video of the singer in question who no way, no how should have been allowed to walk off the stage.
Well, except maybe with the winner’s trophy in hand!
Take a look, take a listen, and see if you agree with my selections. Then you know the drill: Hit the comments with the gaffes that you thought were the most eyebrow-raising and jaw-dropping.
Dan Kiernan

I agreed with Kelsea in the Knockouts that Tinika Wyatt had slayed “Best of My Love” — but not to the point that I’d have kept her over Dan, whose rendition of Shontelle’s “Impossible” was, well, impossibly good. (Lend an ear above.)
Simone Marijic

Did anyone not facepalm when Michael kept the OK Barry Jean Fontenot in the KOs over Simone, who’d poured out her heart and broken ours on her rendition of Sara Bareilles’ Waitress ballad “She Used to Be Mine”? (Listen above.)
Divighn

After the way John praised the Team Kelsea showman’s Knockouts performance, I was all ready to be grumpy for the rest of the season about him not using his Steal to save Divighn… until the EGOT winner later stole the sublime Ari Camille instead. (Watch Divighn kill Maroon 5 above.)
Trevon Dawson

Ethan Eckenroad’s “I Won’t Back Down” cover wasn’t my favorite, but I can agree with all of y’all who say he’s special. Still, I was gutted when Adam dropped country boy Trevon, whose enthusiasm was matched only by his talent. (See why above.)
Fran Posla

Speaking of Ethan, he did fare tremendously well in his Battle with Fran. But I was so bowled over by her warm, tangy voice that it flat-out ticked me off that Adam didn’t save her — and couldn’t, since he’d used his save on Darius J. (Check Fran out above.)
