Adam Levine’s surprise Blake Shelton mention on The Voice teases the return of the show’s ultimate ‘power duo.

It’s a tale as old as time: Adam Levine will never pass up an opportunity to poke fun at Blake Shelton.

When Jennifer Hudson, who’s returned to The Voice Season 29 as an Alumni Coach for Team Kelly, asked Levine how it feels to be sitting where he sits, the 47-year-old rocker seized the chance to take a good-natured jab at his real-life buddy.

Adam Levine joked that Blake Shelton’s old chair on The Voice feels “weathered”

“It doesn’t smell great,” Levine deadpanned before diving even further into the Shelton teasing he’s been known for over the years. “It smells kinda off. Weathered, you know? Worn-in. The seat’s a little more sunken-in … He’s a tall drink of water, that guy.”

All joking aside, Levine stressed that he loves his power position on The Voice these days. “It feels good,” he told Hudson. “It’s fine that I’m on the end, I’m an ‘end seat’ kind of guy. On a plane, I need the aisle seat. I pee a lot, I drink a lot of water… did I say that out loud?”

During the very first episode of The Voice: Battle of Champions, Levine’s fellow Coaches, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, also made sure to mention that the Maroon 5 frontman is sitting in Shelton’s red chair, joking that some of the country star’s lying tendencies have rubbed off on him.

After Clarkson and Levine both turned their chairs for 16-year-old Liv Ciara during the Blind Auditions, the young Artist shared with the Coaches that she’s from St. Louis, with Levine immediately shouting, “Me too!” That was, of course, a fib as Levine grew up in Los Angeles and Clarkson immediately called him out

“Do you want a liar for a Coach?” Clarkson asked, while Legend chimed in, “He’s in Blake’s old chair. It rubs off.”
